Rocket Science 2006 is a trip that Phil Moritz has dreamed of since his youth; a North Atlantic crossing. After a year of outfitting and shake downs and a summer of cruising, Phil and Lisa have invited their friends George and Mary Thurtle of Kirkland, Washington, and Mari Carpeneti, along with Peter McKay of Juneau, Alaska to join them on the trip. The crew assembled in Rhode Island the second week of June to provision, make final preparations to set off on a favorable course to Crosshaven, Ireland. This 55’ Riptide sloop has a carbon fiber hull & mast and will prove to be a challenging craft to make the summer crossing. We hope that we will be able to make regular postings to this web site for your interest in our trip. Thanks to all of our friends, family, and co-workers for your support.
